Introducing: Ultra Tour of Edinburgh

With the help of Rat Race I would like to introduce you to a new race in my home city and one of my running goals for this October – Ultra Tour of Edinburgh.

Of course it’s a 50+km route – my new favourite distance – and I’m so happy to be running it with one of my best friends Stephanie – who just smashed her first 50 mile race at Round the Rock, Jersey and shared my latest 50km challenge with last month in the Chilterns.

A unique race, the Ultra Tour is a special event taking in the best of the city’s sights – starting with a charge down the infamous Royal Mile from Edinburgh Castle then winding around the heart of Scotland’s capital, Arthur’s Seat, Craigmillar Castle, Blackford Hill and the Braids, skirting the incredible Pentland Hills and Water of Leith down to the docks and finally to Murrayfield Stadium. It’s a true celebration of Edinburgh and its’ natural beauty.

Although I’ve been based in London for the last three years, Edinburgh will always be my home and I love racing there – beginning my running journey with Race for Life in Holyrood Park with my sister, Edinburgh Marathon Hairy Haggis Relays with my former club Gala Harriers, Pentland 7 Reservoirs and most recently Edinburgh 7 Hills. It’s a great city to run and race in, with Arthur’s Seat in prime position for hill reps or an afternoon hike, and cobbled streets to explore, the Water of Leith to meander and on the outskirts to the South of the city, the secret of the Pentland Hills.

The Ultra Tour of Edinburgh combines all of my favourite parts of the city and hence is a mixed terrain event in an urban environment. It’s the perfect way to explore the best city if you’re a visitor – and I can’t wait to share it with Stephanie – or if you’re a local keen for an incredible day out on your doorstep.

Join me this Autumn, when I hope the Scottish weather is kind, and run my city. The race is on Sunday 22nd October and starts at 7.30am, giving all abilities of ultra runner – first-timer or more experienced – plenty of time to complete the course. Sign up on the Rat Race website and get in touch to let me know you’re running too! I would love to share my home city with you.
