There’s a new lease of life in Edinburgh this August as the annual Fringe Festival takes over and as well as lots of comedy, theatre, music, cabaret and dance shows there’s also lots of exciting ways to stay active in the city this month. If you’re a performer, check out this page for lots of discounts on physio, Pilates, yoga, massage, healthy food and more, and if you’re a local or just visiting for the shows read on to see what’s happening around you –

1. Summer Sweat at Lululemon, George Street – all free, book via Eventbrite

Saturday 11th – join Jo Richards Dance and Fitness and WERK IT – a divalicious, high energy street dance class with a side order of core work guaranteed to get you sweating, your heart beating and making you feel fantastic.

Saturday 18th – two of Edinburgh’s finest fitness studios combine to get your sweat on then stretch it all out. Join PedalHouse and Hot Yoga Edinburgh for this winning combination of spin and yoga to kick start your weekend.

Saturday 25th – celebrate the final Summer Sweat sesh and their 20th anniversary with a CrossFit functional fitness and yoga combo led by GroundsandPounds and Calum MacKinnon Yoga followed by coffee and cake, of course.

2. Yoga til your heart is content at Tribe Yoga, all month

Sign up for Tribe’s festival special offer – £48 for 8 classes or £85 for 16 – and enjoy classes at any of their three studios around the city. Why not give the 90 minute Power Yoga and Cycle class a go on a Friday morning?

3. Watch the European Diving Championships, Royal Commonwealth Pool, 6th – 12th

While other events like cycling, golf, gymnastics and triathlon take place around Glasgow this week, head to the Commie Pool to watch the diving champs take place!

4. Caerketton Hill Race, Wednesday 8th 7.30pm

Organised by my club Carnethy, this hill race is short and sharp – 3.6km and 300m to be precise – and cheaper to enter than a cup of coffee, just £2. There’s also a Junior race at 7pm.

5. MND Scotland 5k Fun Run and Sponsored Walk, Saturday 18th 11am

Join hundreds of others for a fun-filled 5k route around Holyrood Park – prams, bikes and dogs all welcome – to raise money to support people affected by Motor Neuron Disease.

6. Tough Mudder 5k, Saturday 25th

Take on 5k with 10 obstacles in a team as Tough Mudder comes North of the border and explores Holyrood Park.
