Post-ultra recovery week

After a heavy weekend in the Peak District I went on full recovery mode last week and tried my best to look after myself. I scheduled in lots of rest, yoga, good food and easy runs later on in the week.

Monday – I took the day off work and instead went to my sister’s to help her proof-read her PhD thesis. I spent the afternoon reading with my feet up and although we did try to go to a Yin Yoga class it was cancelled, so instead I spent the evening enjoying Indian food with Nigel.

Tuesday – back to work and I made sure that I booked in a gentle yoga class for afterwards, came home and made sausages and mash for dinner.

Wednesday – I usually go to the gym first thing but I had a lie-in and packed for my work trip instead. After work I jumped on the train to Middlesbrough.

Thursday – after a morning work visit in Middlesbrough we headed to Birmingham and I sought out a local yoga studio to practice at. I found Yogahaven, close to Birmingham New Street station and signed up for a Jivamukti class (open to all), which was a perfect combination of flow and stretch.

Friday – inspired by the evening class, I woke up in my hotel room and did a little yoga sequence following a YouTube video before breakfast. I spent the morning in Birmingham before jumping on a train home.

Saturday – back in Edinburgh and Nige had organised a social run in the Pentlands with a few folk, so I jumped in the car with him, started with the group, then ran off and did my own thing, returning home after an easy 45 minutes. In the afternoon I went along to a Eb and Flow yoga workshop at East Side Yoga. It was bliss and we even enjoyed homemade truffles at the end of class!

Sunday – a nice lie-in before the third cross country race of the season in Peebles at noon. My legs felt ok after yesterday’s first run after the ultra, but I took it easy-ish and really enjoyed the riverside trails, grassy fields and mud!

Today I went to my first Sunrise Power Yoga class at the Tribe studio and I’m hoping I can do this every Monday morning in the run up to Christmas, to get my week off to the best start!
