Running became a strong theme throughout our wedding – it made appearances in our ceremony, speeches, table plan and even footwear – so it only felt right to honour that, do what we love to do and run together as Mr and Mrs the next day!
We were married on Friday afternoon and had an intimate, very personal ceremony with our family and closest friends, choosing to extend our celebrations over two days and invite more guests to party with us on the Saturday evening. So on Saturday we woke up and after moving most of the decorations to our second venue, we gathered our friends and headed into the trails of Glentress for a morning run. The incredible weather that we’d been lucky enough to enjoy on the Friday had continued and the sun streamed between the trees as we climbed, following the red walkers route around the well-known mountain biking trails.
Sophie, Fraser, Ross, Liam, Nigel and I whizzed along the paths, chatting about the day before and planning ahead for the evening’s celebrations. It felt like just a normal morning run, but then I would look down at my hand and see my wedding band and the memories and emotions would come flooding back.
After an hour of exploring and a fast descent through the trees we wound our way back to the car. I hopped in to go shower and get myself to the hairdressers for round two while the boys and our elves headed to the village hall to help set up for the evening.
I’m so happy we got out in the fresh air, stretched our legs and ran together the day after our wedding ceremony and ahead of our big party that evening. It’s what we love to do and share with others so it just felt like us, but now we were Mr and Mrs!
