I thought after I hit 30, the days of celebrating birthdays with gifts might be well and truly over, but my family and close friends surprised me once again this year by giving me the most thoughtful and welcoming presents to open on Wednesday morning. Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes and all of these thoughtful gifts!
Inov-8 are my favourite trail running shoe brand and Nige treated me to these beauties – Roclite 290s – to add to my pairs of 295 and 305s. I love the narrow fit of these and the sole is chunky enough to grip to the trails but not too much to make the shoe feel heavy or clumpy. I’m sure these won’t be this colour for long!
I’ve been trying out a new yoga studio in Edinburgh, Tribe, and have fallen back in love with self practice at home too. My sister Tess knew what my practice was missing and kindly bought me a beautiful grey marbled effect yoga brick from Sweaty Betty and a new bra! Nige picked out a great forest green yoga mat from there too so I felt very spoilt with all my Sweaty Betty gifts and ready to flow on my mat soon! Tess also gave me this incredible Swell bottle – the colours are so amazing! – so I can take it to the gym for water or fill it with tea for after XC races as it keeps things hot for 12 hours!
The day before my birthday a package from Planet Organic arrived and it took everything in my power not to open it! Sophie sent me the most incredible assortment of all the vegan treats including my favourite Ombar chocolate and Livia’s Kitchen bites, salted caramel truffles, vegan Haribo-like sweets and lots of new brands and healthy-ish foods to try!
Stephanie and Tess also know me far too well and two Bloom and Wild packages of flowers popped through the letter box on my birthday. Two different bunches of flowers from my favourite flower delivery company – they always arrive in pristine condition, you can arrange them how you like in your favourite vase, they last for AGES and you always get great deals when you send others gifts, win win!
On my birthday evening we also went out for dinner to Holy Cow – a 100% plant-based cafe in the centre of Edinburgh – and Nige and I both enjoyed burgers and chips, then came home for homemade birthday cake! An incredible day and I am very grateful!
