Birthday treats at Cromlix House

Tomorrow is my 30th birthday and as a very special treat I spent the evening with Nigel enjoying dinner, bed and breakfast at the beautiful Cromlix House in Stirlingshire, Scotland. The hotel was acquired by Scottish tennis superstar Sir Andy Murray in 2014 – so of course guests can enjoy a game of tennis on the grounds – and is now a five star destination with its own Chez Roux restaurant.

We were lucky enough to spend the night at the Gate Lodge, a little cottage at the entrance to the long drive up to the main hotel, and be treated to dinner at the Roux restaurant within the hotel.

An indulgent share of some of the delicious dishes we enjoyed over dinner, alongside some beautiful wines in wonderful surroundings and looked after by the kindest of staff.

Starter of hot smoked salmon and beetroot

Hake with chorizo and butterbeans

Roast beef with the fluffiest Yorkshire pud

Lemon tart with flavours of blackcurrant

We somehow managed to squeeze in breakfast this morning too – Nige enjoyed a full Scottish breakfast with haggis and black pudding and my smoked salmon omelette hit the spot perfectly – before I was whisked away to spend a spa day at Stirling Highland Hotel with my sister, Tess. The birthday celebrations continue…
