A Christmas Tag

I am finally DONE for the holidays and although the last few weeks have included the odd festive treat, it’s only now that I feel I can really get into the Christmas spirit. On the train journey up from London to Edinburgh yesterday I took advantage of the free wifi and caught up on my favourite Vlogmas videos on YouTube (if you’re not familiar with these, they’re videos posted everyday in December by lots of lively characters, most of whom make being online their career).

One ladies’ video, a Miss Zanna Van Dijk – fitness blogger, instagrammer, vlogger and soon to be author – felt particularly festive, although it was simply a chatty narrative of her favourite bits of the silly season. Inspired, I thought I’d share my own personal best bits of Christmas so, ya know, you don’t think all I do is run (side note, guilty, it’s Day 22 of Advent Running and it started at 6am with a run with my love)

Here goes, a little Q&A…just cos it’s Christmas!

What is your favourite Christmas movie?

Love Actually, unashamedly romantic and it never gets old. I watch it every year.

Do you open your Christmas presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?

Traditionally we open them on the morning of Christmas Day, stockings first and then we take it in turns to give each other our bigger gifts.

Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?

When we were younger my sister and I used to sit at the foot of my mum and dads bed to open our stockings, eating the clementines and chocolate coins before breakfast.

What is your favourite festive food?

I think my family Christmas is a little different to most – we enjoy our meal in the evening like dinner, whereas for many it’s the main part of the day in the afternoon.

So for me, brunch food is the best – Dad makes homemade bagels and we serve them with delicious Scottish smoked salmon and cream cheese – as well as the Cadbury selection box treats with a cup of tea.

What is your favorite part of Christmas dinner?

Again, we don’t have the traditional turkey for Christmas dinner – we usually just have a big chicken like a Sunday roast. One of my favourites are the sprouts and chestnuts, and the homemade cranberry sauce, oh and the honey roasted parsnips – basically all the sides!

What is your favorite Christmas scent?

Spiced mulled wine with all the citrus fruits and cinnamon.

Do you have any Christmas day traditions?

If we’re home then our day is pretty relaxed – wake up and open stockings, brunch, maybe a walk or run  (if Advent Running), lots of cups of tea with chocolates or homemade mince pies/stollen then we all help cook dinner while watching Christmas TV.

What tops your tree?

Either a fairy or glittery star

What is the best part of Christmas for you?

Simply being at home with family and the cat, sitting in front of the fire and enjoying the festivities.

I hope this has given you a little insight into my Christmas traditions, do you have anything you like to do every year that’s extra special? A very Merry Christmas to you all!
