It’s August and it has been for almost a fortnight! I’ve been slacking on the blogging front recently, busy with work and also enjoying some time out on holiday, but I’m back and hoping to get into a more regular posting schedule. There’s lots going on in the next few months and my weekends are booked up with weekends away, races, weddings and long Sunday runs are back on the agenda in preparation for…
To ease the blow and sail through the late Summer months, apparently there’s a heat wave a comin’, here’s what I’m loving since my last round of favourites –
The last month has seen a few mile races in the calendar and I ticked off the SOAR mile and Battersea Park mile relays from my Summer Race List. I’ve been enjoying doing some shorter, sharper interval sessions in preparation for these and next week I’m looking forward to joining Barnes Runners at their track session for some, probably quite painful, laps of Barn Elms athletics track.
After our OMM adventure I’ve become much more intrigued about orienteering and exploring new areas with just a map and compass as a guide, we even kept it up on our holiday. It’s a totally different kettle of fish to just running a race and I think I’m going to try and keep it up and plan some more adventures in the Winter months.
Despite my fear of heights I was reminded how much of a buzz I get from climbing when Nige and I joined our Never Stop London crew again last weekend at an introductory session at the Westway Climbing Centre. Pulling on a harness and attaching the ropes, putting your faith in your partner as you scale the walls above and switching off your brain as you let go and auto-belay down, all make for an exciting and different way to challenge yourself, and I’m excited to try it out more often.
Avene Cleanance Cleansing Gel
Apologies if this is TMI, but hot summer runs and sweaty lycra aren’t the best combination for clean and clear skin. Post-run/workout I’ve discovered this little bottle of soap-free cleansing gel, which can be used for the face and body and leaves my skin blemish-free and feeling fresh.
Rude Health Cafe
A welcome new addition to the already long list of amazing places to brunch in our local area, Rude Health – who bring us delicious muesli, granola and dairy-free ‘milks’ – set up shop next to Putney Bridge station serving the ultimate avocado toast and so much more!
My daily routine has now become – wake, workout, work, watch – and when I say watch, all we’re watching is the BBC coverage of the Olympic Games in Rio. I love coming home to switch on and catch up on the medal tally and I’m excited for the athletics to finally start today!
Have you been caught up in the excitement of Rio and what are your favourite sports to watch? Obviously the athletics is well worth waiting for but I’ve also been loving the diving (mostly for the commentary!), track cycling and gymnastics, all fascinating!
